Find your local hookah bar or hookah lounge in USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the world! This is the largest listing of hookah bar locations you will find online and is the most comprehensive list, complete with review comments where possible.
Links are provided to sites where applicable. This section of the site
is to help everyone find a suitable hookah lounge or other place nearby
to smoke a hookah, as well as to provide honest reviews. All information
gathered here is as a result of internet searches, chance discovery or first hand experience, but most of all it's provided by YOU! If you would like to see your establishment
included here or you know of one that you don't see listed here, or if an entry
is in need of correction, let us know. We try to provide the most accurate
information, but we don't know of changes unless you contact us. If smoking
laws have affected your establishment, please let us know any important information,
good or bad. We especially like to hear that you're the exception to smoking
laws!

Be aware that not all the places listed are hookah lounges exclusively. Some are coffee shops or restaurants with Middle Eastern cuisine and flair. They cater to Middle Eastern clientele and are as intimate as a livingroom with a group of regulars, and YOU, as a newcomer, are expected to be on your best behavior. You know a place is good when you see Middle Eastern people. Don't drive them away with bad or loud behavior. ("We used to go there, but it has been overrun with disrespectful kids. They've ruined it for the rest of us.") In general, many hookah lounges are very classy and plush places with unique decor. Keep with the vibe, dress nice, be respectful and don't be a loudmouth.
Hookah Bar / Hookah Lounge owners: Don't play Beastie Boys or Rage Against The Machine on the stereo and clean your hookahs often.
Hookahs belong on the floor and not on the table, because it is an object of service. Imagine the notion of "putting someone on a pedstal." This is along the same idea, and the shisha is an item of much lower rank, if you will. Traditional establishments will still adhere to this rule, while some hookah lounges are placing the hookah on the table for everyone to enjoy. Not very authentic, but it does celebrate the hookah. Smaller hookahs on a table are more convenient, as you can imagine.
HookahCulture.com is considering a store directory where
one can buy hookahs,
maassell and supplies. These are usually local grocery stores
that DO NOT offer online sales.

Red Sea Cafe
827 S. Rural Rd. Tempe, AZ 85281 480-966-2401
Review: Nice place, nice furniture,
clean hookahs with screens and not foil, attentive staff, table games. Excellent pub food
from next door is served, but no dining tables are in the hookah lounge. You pretty
much eat off your lap or set your food on a low table or folding tray
provided. Coffees, teas and other drinks also served, but no liquor. In a town that
bans indoor cigarette smoking in public places, you may smoke here. Splash brand maassell (50g)
sold to go as well as replacement parts for your hookah. Variable availability on flavors, but when they
have them all, it's an impressive selection. .Website

Authentic
Egyptian Kalil Mahmoun hookahs, representing top quality craftsmanship from
a famous maker are served
with authentic and durable quality hoses with long handles. Premium brand Al-Fakher
flavors are served, including the elusive
Golden Seal varieties such as the Eskandrani Apple! Boxes of mo'asell are available
for purchase as well.
All shishas are color coded for the flavor, so you don't get funky mint from
a previous smoke contaminating your
Eskandrani apple! You're expected to order a drink with your hookah. No worries,
plenty to choose from including green tea.
Friendly owner who mixes with the customers and knows he has top quality everything,
which severely lacks in other places.
Hookahs are $7.99. A relative bargain given the quality of the smoke and attentive
and friendly service that makes sure
your hookah is going properly. RELAX! Don't rush the hookah. It also ensures
a top quality smoke.
Hookahs for sale as well, you would do well to buy an authentic tall Egyptian
Mahmoun brand shisha!
When you're tired of the crowds and the waiting and the fuss, Urban Cafe will
show you how a REAL hookah is done!
(Yes we like this place.)

eat inside, there's ample seating, but it's still recommended you get there
early for dinner and beat the crowds. The best kept secret in the entire valley
is UPSTAIRS! A full size and classy hookah lounge with food available from
downstairs. It's considered "to go" so it's brought in styro containers and not
plates. Absolutely delicious and recommended. The atmosphere is traditional and
not loud or clubby. Arabic-speaking university students frequent the
place.
This place

cleaning brushes, metal screens, etc.! If you need a plain hose they have those

inspect it thoroughly,
and the best deal is with the tall hookahs.

More of a restaurant, but they do serve hookahs for $8.99. Old Town Scottsdale
style.
Their website shows a nice taller Egyptian hookah, but we don't know the actual
sizes served. Flavors served include double apple, strawberry, grape, or mint.
"DINE-IN ONLY," it says regarding the hookahs on the website, so I guess you're
expected to eat something, and the food pics on the website look scrumptious!
Nice chunky tomatoes. The Arizona winter months afford PERFECT lunchtime dining
outside on the patio. WEBSITE

Scottsdale Kebab
On Scottsdale Road, downtown Scottsdale near Stetson. Open till 10pm.
A small place on the east side of the street, this is a basic middle eastern
restaurant with a very small bar up front which was surprising.
Outdoor sidewalk tables are available as well. On the cover of the menu are
some pictures of nice tall Egyptian and Syrian hookahs, but in reality you're
served a short, basic brass hookah with a basic wooden tip hose. I believe they
serve Nakhla moasell. $7.99 for a hookah. You may smoke in the entrance foyer
or outside on the sidewalk. If you go, it's best early evening toward sunset.
Service can be spotty in frequency but very friendly and accomodating. Good
portions at Scottsdale prices, but please understand that they have to pay for
the Old Town Scottsdale rents.

| CAPSULES FROM AN L.A. LOCAL! |
| Cafe Feshawi 8518 Katella Ave. Anaheim 92804 (714) 828-9244 This place should not be considered a cafe, the location is more like a small club with hookahs. The atomosphere is loud and clubby, you have to raise your voice just to talk to the person across from you. Cover charge $5, a serving of hookah is another $5, 18+ only. Only non-alcoholic drinks are offered from a vending machine at the back. The clientele consists of all young people, sidways baseball caps love this place. The interior is plush with plenty of couches to lay on, although it does get crammed even on weekday nights. The 40" flat screen TV's are always bumping mainstream rap and trance music videos, this type of music is way too fast paced to enjoy smoking a hookah to. The service is fairly fast and friendly and the all-metal hookahs are well maintained. If you want a club type atmopshere that gets wild, this is the place for you. If you're looking for a place to relax and just want to enjoy smoking a hookah, try some more traditional smoking locations. |

The brand of mahsell served isn't known,
but they have some of the more delicious flavors.
No
cover, $7.00 hookahs with $5.00 refills. Nice atmosphere and service.
Medium height Egyptian hookahs with the luxurious hose
handles!
Nice place, 80 inch TV, hip-hop, trance, Middle
Eastern, Mediteranean, 80's and 90's music.
No word if
the music is overly loud or not, I would hope it's reasonable for conversation.
Seems to be for 20's30's crowd, but no student kiddie
drama.
They also serve pastries, desserts, teas,
coffees, soft drinks and energy drinks.

512 S Brookhurst St., Anaheim, CA 92804 Phone (714)520-5661 Opens at about 3:30pm till about 4am. Nice and dedicated owner, mixes with the customers. Late afternoon/early evening has happy hour prices - hookah, drink, and a sandwich $11.00! This is a new lounge that has just opened up in Anaheim, very close to Carthage and Hidden Café. One big open room, soft couches along the walls, big screen TV in one corner playing belly dancer videos, hip-hop music. Very good smoke, my mint was superb. Good coal service. Good service all around. The shishas were the tall 30" kind with very large bowls and tasted excellent. They don't mix their fruit flavors with their mint or grape and they keep the bowls, hookahs, and hoses color coded as not to mix the flavors with subsequent uses. The decor is very simple, couches along the walls with little tables, dark colored walls (blue, purple), one wall is padded with red pillows and has three of those lighted mirrors on it. You can see the whole place from wherever you sit. The music was easy to talk over, they probably turn it up for the belly dancer. Clientele is mostly young people, no older traditionals in sight. Other notes: Clean flavor coded hookahs, hot sandwiches on offer, no alcohol. Dancing with the DJ! There's been a rise in young white kids, good time at night if that's your crowd. |

Great food and great ambiance.
Notes from a local: This is an
great place, and the owners are fantastic. Highly recommend it.
It's a lot more laid back and casual than many other shisha
places that play loud music or are very crowded...
Here
you can sit on the cushions on their outdoor patio, smoke, drink excellent
morroccan mint tea, talk, and watch people walk past and stare at you as they
try to figure out if you are really smoking *that* in public or what ;)
The two sisters that own this place are such nice people,
they will come out and chat with you, make sure your coals are fresh, and they
take music requests (we had some very nice Turkish music at a volume that still
allowed conversation). D'vine has a large variety of shisha flavors and they'll
let you smell them or reccommend one if you're not sure what to pick. We enjoyed
this place so much our first visit, we came back the next night... and if you
get addicted (to the place, not the shisha) too, they offer 6th one free for
repeat customers. GREAT place!

Cafe Hookah
726
Davis St., Evanston, Phone 847.475.2233
An American
college yuppie café near Northwestern University that features 36 flavors of
shisha and an oxygen bar. It’s pricey to be sure; but this is Evanston, the
center of suburban Chicago north shore - a high-rent district. It opens at 5:30
PM, and has a shisha special for $10 before 7 PM. Normal prices are 15$ for a
bowl, with two coals. Refills are $7.00 and extra
coals are $3.00 each. KA-CHING! This café also offers shisha pipes
fitted with fresh fruit in the place of the traditional clay bowl; watermelon,
cantaloupe, apple lemon, orange are available for $20-$30. Décor is nice, but
not spectacular. Pipes are served on top of tables due to space, so traditional
shisha manners are optional (the sideways wearing baseball set will be
comfortable) and it’s BYOB. They also serve the normal Middle Eastern cuisine
and tea. It’s crowded after 9pm, reservations are taken and recommended. Tables
in the back are a little better, as the entrance can be seasonally cold. Parking
meters are hungry and the eager Evanston police ticket hard, checking your meter
every 15 minutes.

From what I have been told, the OPM Club in the Caesars forum also has hookahs, as well
as Habib's Middle Eastern Restaurant. There is also a
restaurant called Layalina (spelling unsure) that has
hookahs. In addition, there are two other hookah lounge/cafe/bars under
construction. One is called the Hookah Cafe (across from UNLV) and another one
in Silverado Ranch (a 'burb' of Vegas on the Southside). I don't remember the
name of the one in Silverado Ranch, however, I met the Owner and she said the
name of the place meant 'diamond' in Arabic.

REVIEW COMMENT:
Excellent Persian food, elegant hot date atmosphere with superb service. Choice
of floor seating with low tables or regular dining tables. Excellent dining
experience. However their hookah department severely lacks. Baby size hookahs,
no mouthpieces. The waitstaff aren't hookah-hip AT ALL. Missing hose grommet.
Not a place for beginner smokers; you might have to take charge and rescue the
situation. Bring a strip of foil as well as a lighter in case you're handed a
half-lit coal on a busy dining night. Understand that the servers are more with
the diners. No smoking inside, (outdoor smoking on patio) and it can get cold in
Alb. in fall and winter. The waitstaff are genuinely nice about everything
though. $10.00 per bowl, very limited flavors (2 or 3, incl. apple and fruit).
If this place had hookahs to match their food and
service, this would be one AWESOME place to have a hookah.
Petra Café & Restaurant
115 Harvard Dr., SE, Albuquerque 266-2477
Right south of UNM off Central in Albuquerque, this
restaurant offers good and cheap north African/Mediteranean dishes. The tzadziki
sauce is watery. The hummus is DELICIOUS and well-made but lacks in quantity. A
great selection of dishes on the menu however. Hookahs for $10.00. No clue on
the maassell varieties, but you'll have to smoke outside under the
sunshaded patio. A variety of hookahs with some miles on them. Family owned
restaurant, genuinely nice people. A few friendly (brave) little birds are also
locals, give them bits of your pita. I'm convinced they'll eat out of your
fingers if they perch on your table.
Hookah Kings
4014 Central
Ave SE, Albuquerque 87108
Just east of the Double
Rainbow in the Morningside shopping center.
http://www.hookahkings.com
Although you can
smoke there, the place is more of a hookah shop than a lounge. They have
wall-to-wall hookahs and offer to custom-build hookahs on the spot with many
different bases and hoses to choose from. They offer over 30 flavors, charcoal,
and sell all accessories including grommets, valve bearings, and those funky
funnel (Q*Bert) bowls. They offer the best prices around if purchased from the
store. They also offer local hookah catering services. Moassel varieties are
mostly Nakhla boxes with some Al Waha 250g tubs and a few oddball boxes and
Zaghloul. The "package deal" is truly a deal since you get to hand pick
everything and get lots of extras.
"We do serve
pipes upon request for $5 a bowl, but we do not openly advertise it as a service
within our shop. I would like to advertise to your readers that they should
simply mention your site (HookahCulture.com) if they would like to relax with a
bowl of their favorite flavor and a beverage."

New York / NYC Hookah Bars
As everyone knows,
the New York City area is a cultural melting pot, with many nationalities
claiming various
sections of the boroughs. When it comes to the Arabic areas with their
(n)argileh
cafes, there are a
few - Steinway Street in Astoria on Long Island, Bay Ridge AKA "The
West Bank" in
Brooklyn, and a few
others.
Sometimes you might encounter a VERY traditional
place, and the Old World culture is very much in tact.
However, the vast majority of places are open for business
to serve everyone and not be culturally isolated.
As applies to everywhere, be
friendly and respectful,
Top Five Hookah Bars (listed below) http://www.nymetro.com/nymetro/nightlife/n_8479/
"The sweet aroma
of fruit-flecked tobacco will soon be outlawed from these fragrant Middle East
havens. Inhale legally while the law is still on your side."
The NYC hookah scene might be threatened due to new
anti-smoking laws. If a "tobacco bar" was doing business before November 2001,
they are exempt from the NYC smoking law. There are also ways of skirting the
law, more updates as they come.

This place is
fine Turkish dining, great for a date!
You'll see the sign and the restaurant on the second level.
Go up the small stairway off the street, the menu is usually
posted out front.
Some locals say it's the best Turkish restaurant in NYC!
Excellent grilled fare.
Dinner plates run between $12 -
19, and they have appetizers under $10 as well. Vegetarian dishes available.
There's a very small bar in the corner of the room, and the
restaurant has a very intimate and romantic
dinner
atmosphere. What a place for a rendezvous! Try to arrange a table away from the
door in any case.
They offer hookah smoking on the back
patio as weather permits, 10 different flavors. $12.95 per hookah.
Genuinely nice waitstaff, excellent hospitality. Leave the
kids at home though. Dress up.
This place is a wonderful haven from the NYC bustle,
especially during the week after work.
Don't get there too late or you may wait 30
minutes for a table. Get there early for a quiet dinner.

From a local: "All other restaraunts
must bow to this north African hotspot. The decor is
unparalelled, the lighting is entirely from Berber lanterns hung from the
ceiling. A belly dancer is usually present on weekends, and the courtyard has a
Bedouin tent with argileh setup in fair weather. The food is fantastic, presided
over by a Tunisian head chef, but designed to represent all of North Africa. The
argileh can be enjoyed inside as well, but it's more of an accompaniment to the

Tobacco flavours range from mango to
merangue, and bowls are only $6.00!

A Palestinian-owned establishment. The

The Hookah Cafe
Colonial Plaza,
Belmont Avenue, Liberty Twp., Youngstown.
Open very late
till the last head leaves! An ultra-posh place, despite the semi-suburban N.
Youngstown location.
The owner designed the place after
his uncle's place in DC. Also Palestinian-owned, and ironically located in the
most Jewish section of Youngstown, in a plaza that is shared with Kravitz's
Jewish Deli and Jimmy's Italian store. The Hookah Cafe attracts a vibrant mix of
young diverse people, and local Arab men who play cards all night deliver a
serious sense of authenticity. Juke box, local sports and boxing on TV,
beautiful blue fish tanks, red walls, Mediterranean murals and black leather
couches set the mood. Mob motif and pool hall in the rear. GREAT Middle Eastern
food available even late night including a tasty array of Turkish and
Palestinian coffees.
Summer plans include outdoor
seating along the side of the building and a rooftop terrace!

The location on Main

and “what the heck is a fez?” On the upside, they
do have excellent food as well as belly dancers, and the
Addison location is magnificent. The Main location is also
on the ‘trendy’ side, with a big snob factor.

Hours: 6pm-2am Wednesdays-Sundays alamirdallas.com
A Lebanese
restaurant by day and club/hookah lounge by night.
The
music mixes are amazing (Arabic: Egyptian,Lebanaese, Persian - all some mixed
with current hip-hop mixes)
and they also have belly
dancers on Friday and Saturday nights. Sunday's the have Amateur Belly Dancing
Contests (win $$).
This is mainly a restaurant that
offers hookahs, but they do have a hookah lounge. Al-Amir I has three levels,
two full bars and dance floors.
Hookahs are $15 for
about 20 different flavors. Thursdays are $5-$10 Hookah Nights.
Dress is casual but nice. No sloppy dressing! Atmosphere is
fun and inviting.
It can get busy, so watch that you get
tongs if you don't want to rely on staff to nurse your hookah.
Al Amir II has a sunken dance floor, full bar, and can be
rented for family celebrations, gatherings, etc.
Belly
dancing every night at 9:30. Lessons are offered some days.
Reservations required Fridays and Saturdays. Cover charge
after 9pm on weekends.

NOT an authentic "Arabic" feel AT ALL (hookah etiquette is
not usually seen here); hookahs are many times on tables, and people light their
cigarettes with the charcoal all the time. There are couches and games. The
hookahs range from $8-$12 and there is an EXCELLENT selection of flavors,
ranging from cola and butterscotch, to exotic guava and melon.
All-in-all, a cool place to hang out with your college
buddies, but not a good place to come if you came to feel "authentic" or if
you're hungry (they only serve drinks and snacks like chocolate bars).

outside of Montreal. Sorry, address unknown but the shop

restaurant (which serves amazing crepes called "fitir"). Any further information is appreciated.
Capsule from a local: Baba Kabab is pretty good and the atmosphere is traditional. Zahra on St Catherine sucks. Kafeine on Bishop has a cool atmosphere but the sheeshas are AWFUL. There is a couple of places where you can buy your tobacco, Adonis, but its freaking expensive. There is also SUPERMARCHE AKHAVAN on Sherbrooke and Grand Avenue.
Other points from a local: Akhavan is an Iranian supermarket. Very good place, tons of stuff you find at Adonis, but cheaper (including sheeshas, tobacco, charcoal, and sometimes accessories). Al Safa is a 'middle eastern' place on St Laurent. Again, supermarket, the owner is pretty cool and offers a good selection of tobacco. Good price too. For Akhavan and specially al-Safa, ALWAYS BARGAIN your price! They are cool and they are used to this. Baba Kabab , good sheeshas, very 'arabic' styling, but calm so you can smoke, eat, play backgammon (sheesha around $10-12). It is now closed for renovation. The BEST sheesha will be found at Nefertitti again, on St. Catherine, near McKay. nice Egyptian atmosphere, AMAZING SHEESHA, very calm. ONE PROBLEM: we call the owner the Sheesha Nazi. a real bastard who can and WILL kick you out if he doesnt like you. (Sideways baseball cap kooks stay away!! -ed.) Expect to pay around $8 for the sheesha and $30 the box. If you want to go there, go there with an Egyptian to start...

(Opens at 5pm
daily) This place is one of the best known Hookah places in Vancouver, right in
the heart of downtown.
The place itself is low-key, and
quite small. Service is not fantastic, and the place tends to get very crowded
in the evenings, especially in the summer -- but they know what they're doing
when it comes to shisha. The Teahouse also offers Persian tea.

This place is a restaurant that also features a smoking
room especially for hookah.
The place looks fantastic,
and on Fridays and Saturday nights, they usually have some sort of live
entertainment (live bands or bellydancers).
The service
can be chalked up as bitchy at best, and although their shisha is always good,
they only offer one or two flavors at a time.
Also, they
usually charge an additional cover of $10-$15 dollars if they have live
entertainment that night (even if you are only interested in going to the back
to smoke shisha).
Kashcool Restaurant and Dance Lounge
222 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver, BC V7P2R5 (604)
904-3904
Open daily from 11am - ?? This place has
amazing food, but it can be slightly pricy.
On the other
hand, they have the cheapest hookah I've found so far -- only $8 a pipe.
But you get what you pay for, their pipes are often weak,
and tasteless (though sometimes you get lucky).
Keep in
mind, this restaurant does not have a smoking license, so all shisha is done
outside in their gazebo area.
Also, if you're ordering
drinks, stick with bottled beers and wines, because their bartending is mediocre
at best.

border of north west London.
Nearest tube Burnt Oak on the Northern line. Al-Rafidain is
on the junction between Watling avenue and Edgware Rd.
(Yes its the same famous Edgware Road but remember that
street is about 8 miles long!)
Their wettest and best flavours i've, so far, tried are
Cherry, Double Apple and Liquorice (AWESOME!).
Do not buy their
Mint. For some reason its almost always dry.
They also sell Wood coal but I buy my wood
coal from a shop only 10 seconds away:
Turn left when you emerge on to the Edgware
Road and on the opposite side of the road you'll see a huge Turkish
general grocery

Sydney Rd, Brunswick, VIC, Tel: +61 3 9387 6322
The Coco
is the probably the only traditional Middle-Eastern shisha café in Melbourne.
It's a little more traditional without substantial fancy
décor. There are two areas in the café. The front area is open and patrons often
bring in food. The Coco only serves shisha and drinks. This is due to Australian
smoking laws. But, there is a plethora of Middle-Eastern cafés, restaurants and
bakeries steps away who offer takeaway – and the Coco is happy to bring your
own, "BYOF." The back room has Arab television or music and the crowd is fairly
traditional, meaning the back area is mostly Middle-Eastern men. It's a little
working class, but most dress well.
No sideways or other baseball caps please. Shisha is
served with natural style uncompressed charcoal in a Syrian or Egyptian style
bowl. Soex brand served, nice pipes!
They serve a great
smoke and bowls are a very reasonable $10 AUD. Open late most night. Catch tram
#19 to stop #25 or take the Upfield train line to Anstey station. sydneyroad.com.au
Alumbra
Shed 6B, South Wharf Road, South Bank, VIC, 3006, Tel: +613
8606 4422
A swanky, chic cocktail bar in Melbourne, with
a backdrop of the city skyline on the Yarra river. They also serve a wide
variety of tapas, Middle-Eastern food, Oz and French wines, plus exotic
cocktails. Only apple masell available and is served in Turkish style pipes. Too
bad the pipes have not been cleaned since the bar opened. A local says "the one
served to me made me very sick, I've never had a pipe so bad." Skip the shisha
and stay for the crowd, vibe, view and drinks. Better yet, bring your own pipe.
Dress for success. Generally open 5 PM to 3 AM. Alumbra is located on the river
behind the Melbourne Exhibition center. alumbra.com.au

Friendly staff, TERRIFIC food and coffee.
Shisha is $20 AUD at last report. (hey it's upscale). achelya.com.au
Osmane Café
800 Punchbowl Rd., Punchbowl, NSW, Tel: +61 2 9759 7093
Osmane is the newest shisha café in Sydney. Due to smoking
laws they primarily serve coffee, tea and shisha. The tea is traditional, very
good, and served in pots with small traditional glasses in silver holders. The
smoking area is indoor/outdoor and is very large. Shisha is served in Syrian
style bowls on large 42 inch pipes. Unique to most Shisha cafés, the Osmane also
provides each table with a charcoal server for a constant supply of traditional
charcoals. Open from 9AM to 2 AM. Get there by 8 PM, if you want a bench seat
table. It's about a 1 minute walk to Punchbowl station on the Bankstown train.

The titanic is a upscale

table cloth. The restaurant also features a glassed off indoor/outdoor smoking
lounge.
Very busy after 8-9 PM. It's a block and a half
from Bankstown station on the Bankstown train.

New Zealand
Kebab House
267 Karangahape Rd ("K Road"), Central, Auckland NZ +64 9
373 5656 This sidewalk kebab restaurant is in the heart of Auckland's red light
district. New Zealand is not America - prostitution is legal here and the area
reasonably safe at night, especially K Road. There are also upscale restaurants
and pubs in the area. The food is good and cheap. So is the shisha, served up on
sidewalk café tables in small Egyptian style pipes. Don't let the packing tape
scare you – the smoke is high quality and the flavor selection large. As a bonus
you might just be entertained by some working girls preparing for their day.
Just don't forget to bring your own plastic pipe tips
– they don't provide any. Open 11 AM to late. Kebab house has two additional
locations, but it is unknown if they serve shsiha. Sideways baseball caps
wearing types will find a warm welcome here.

House – 600 Remuera Road, Remuera, Auckland +64 9 522 6625 Little Turkish Café –
217 Karangahape Rd ("K Road"), Central, Auckland +64 9 302 0353 This is a
Turkish Café / Restaurant with indoor / outdoor seat and fabulous food. It's
only a block away from the core of the red light district, but its ambiance is
more than a block away from the typical kebab shops. The café makes fresh bread
continuously in their own wood fired brick oven to complement their spit roasted
meats. And the menu is wide, deep and reasonably cheap. After such a fine meal,
they will serve you a little shisha. To bad the consistency of their shisha
set-up is a little hit or miss. They have outdoor heaters and wind breaks, if it
gets a little cool. Sideways baseball cap wearing types will find a warm welcome
here.

excellent.

OK we all know
this is a shisha smoking capital, and there are LOTS of places to smoke, but
there's
one place in Cairo that prevails.....
El Fishawi is the best place! Khan Al Khalili is the most famous bazaar in
Cairo... Just enter the Khan
sideways from
Al Hussain's Mosque to the left and the El Fishawi cafe
will emerge after about 200
meters. You can't miss it!
It is a very popular spot. Their Turkish Coffee is great and
they are famous for their tea
served with fresh mint.
Just sit there and enjoy your drinks and smoke and don't
forget to look up!
This is a very old place in Cairo and the architecture is
breathtaking.
The best place to buy a shisha is Khan Al Khalili, but not in the front and
tourist area, but behind,
where shishas are for sale piece by piece... You can choose and build by yourself.

In that part of the
world, liquor or juice is often used in the base of the hookah to
"enhance" the flavor of the hookah smoke.
It's a bit megalomaniac by Western standards, but
it seems to be a trendy Russian custom as of late.
Offerings for your
hookah base at the Atlanta include champagne, cognac, vodka, red wine, juice, or
standard.
Other offerings include "Bahamas" cocktail, but it's not clear what that
entails. Perhaps rum?
